We are proud to celebrate the grand opening of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Research & Education Institute at Stanford University—a historic milestone that honors the enduring legacy of Dr. King. This transformative institute serves as a global center for scholarship, dialogue, and education, dedicated to preserving and advancing the values of justice, equality, and nonviolence that Dr. King championed.

Please join us for our grand opening as we officially open our new office to Stanford and our broader community.

Thank you for registering to attend the Grand Opening on the Main Quad of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Research & Education Institute! We look forward to seeing you on campus on October 14th. Please see below for additional event details that may be helpful for your planning.

  • Event start time:

4 p.m. start for the main program and panel discussion at Memorial Church. Please see website for program details.

  • 5 p.m. start for the reception, tours of the Institute’s new space, and book signing with Martin Luther King III and Arndrea Waters King for their recently published book, What Is My Legacy?: Realizing a New Dream of Connection, Love and Fulfillment.  
  • Doors open: 3:15 p.m. at Memorial Church. Please allow ample time to arrive and be seated before the program starts, as we anticipate significant event attendance. Please also have photo identification and your Eventbrite registration (a print copy, your email confirmation, or your ticket on the Eventbrite app all work) at the ready to help ease check-in.
  • Parking: Please allow ample time for parking. There are several other large events on campus that day and parking may be limited. Please carpool or make use of public transportation/biking/walking where possible. For those who will need visitor parking, please see our event page for suggested parking areas on campus, as well as parking maps.
  • ADA access: Please note that all aspects of this event are accessible. For ADA parking, we recommend the Roble Garage and will have golf carts stationed there for assistance.
  • Attire: Given the current rain in the forecast, please dress accordingly and wear safe and stable footwear.
  • Event terms & conditions: Entering the venue shall be deemed consenting to all conditions listed below, and any others set by Stanford University.

If your plans have changed and you can no longer join us, please kindly cancel your registration in your Eventbrite account.

Event terms & conditions:

  • Capacity is limited and seating is available to registrants on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • All items may be subject to search.
  • This event will be photographed and by entering the venue, you consent to Stanford University using your image and likeness.
  • Cameras/flash photography and recording (audio/video) is not permitted.
  • Please turn off all cell phones and alarms.
  • No signs, flyer distribution, banners, flags, or posters are allowed inside the venue.
  • Entry and re-entry will be at the discretion of Event Management.

Please note, parking will be limited on campus that day due to other events. Please consider carpooling or make use of public transportation/biking/walking, where possible. Parking after 4pm at most locations, except the Oval, is free. Before that time, it is paid. Each lot above has designated ADA spaces though we strongly recommend parking at the Roble Garage as it has ample ADA spaces and we will have golf carts stationed there to assist guests. 

Further lots that may have additional available visitor parking, but require longer walks/navigating through campus
