JTAS: Special Forum on “Global Huck: Mapping the Cultural Work of Translations of Mark Twain’s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn”

Hot off the presses: a Special Forum on “Global Huck: Mapping the Cultural Work of Translations of Mark Twain’s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” in the latest issue of the Journal of Transnational American Studies.  Stanford English professor & American Studies Director Shelley Fisher Fishkin co-edited the  Special Forum with Tsuyoshi Ishihara in Japan, Ronald Jenn in France, Holger Kersten in Germany and Selina Lai-Henderson in China. The Special Forum  examines  the translation histories of Huck Finn in  Iran, France, the Arab world, Germany, Tsarist Russia and the Soviet Union, Brazil, Spain, India, and Taiwan, exploring how the novel has shaped cultural conversations about literature, racism, vernacular language and the US in nine different regions of world. It includes essays by  Behnam Fomeshi, Ronald Jenn, Véronique Channaut, Hamada Kassam, Winston Kelley, Margarita Marinova,  Vera Lúcia Ramos, Miguel Sanz Jiménez, Seema Sharma, and An-chi Wang. The Journal of Transnational American Studies (JTAS)  is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal co-sponsored by Stanford and the Obama Institute (Mainz, Germany), and published in UC-Berkeley’s e-scholarship platform.  https://escholarship.org/uc/acgcc_jtas
