American Studies Concentration: Race and Representation in American Popular Culture

I'm excited to combine my interdisciplinary interest in media studies, literature, and history when considering how Americans have represented difference in its popular and fine-arts media. I'm interested in comparing self-representation with hegemonic depictions, and considering how popular culture can influence real sociopolitical living conditions. Outside of the classroom, you can find me creating a 1970s political thriller webcomic, editing scripts as a workshop coordinator for Flying Horse Films, or rambling about the construction of the "Wild West."
